No Child Un-Recruited
I was listening to NPR this morning and they had a piece on military recruiting in High School. Apparently one of the provisions for funding in the ‘No Child Left Behind’ act was that, for schools to get funding available, they had to provide the military with contact information for all juniors and seniors. There is the ability for parents to ‘opt out’ but the means for communicating this is often obscure or unavailable.
The justification that the government / military uses for this is that it allows the armed forces to be on a level playing field with schools and businesses trying to recruit from high school… WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT… The University of Colorado doesn’t have right to recruiting lists of all high school students. And the fact that this kind of recruiting is tied to funding for education is reprehensible. Very typical for the current administration though..
Uggg.. Pisses me off… Wow.. I guess I’m kind of spun up today huh? 😉
Taggers
Uggg… Is it just me or has the volume of blog spam gone WAY up. I woke up this morning to about 20 new spam comments. Its super easy for me to blast ’em and I see ’em come in so they don’t stick for very long (especially given how often I read email).. But FUCK.. These people PISS ME OFF… I get the same visceral when I see these that I get when people steal or vandalize things. Its kinda cyber tagging and the the only difference between these folks and the thugs that tag buildings is that the thugs don’t hide behind their computers and mask their identity…
Anyway.. just pisses me off..
Happy monday!
Bush Stumbles make me Giggle
You’d think after the last debate where the President mocked Kerry for insinuating that he owned a lumber company only for it to come out that he disclosed just such a thing on his tax form
This time was just about as fun.. This time, when John Kerry pointed out that Bush had said that he wasn’t very concerned about Bin Laden any more, Bush said “Gosh, I just don’t think I ever said I’m not worried about Osama bin Laden. It’s kind of one of those exaggerations.”… Well guess what i found on the White House’s web site:
Q But don’t you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won’t truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I say, we haven’t heard much from him. And I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don’t know where he is. I — I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him, when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban.
Funny… But I think it says right there “I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him. ” I can just see his advisors sitting in the other room watching him talk screaming ‘DOHHHH…”
I think the President really should get out of the habit of correcting other people’s quotes cuz it seems he’s been wrong in some pretty unfortunate situations..
Just makes me giggle and I had to share!! 🙂
