Where it all began

Tuesday, September 9th, 2003 | Geek Stuff | 1 Comment

Today is the anniversary of the misery that I experience day in and day out. The US Naval Historical Center marks September 9, 1945 as the day Lt. Grace Hopper ‘debugged’ the first computer bug:

Moth found trapped between points at Relay # 70, Panel F, of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University, 9 September 1945. The operators affixed the moth to the computer log, with the entry: “First actual case of bug being found”. They put out the word that they had “debugged” the machine, thus introducing the term “debugging a computer program”.

He pointed me at this site… HARD CORE GEEK… Wrong on SO MANY levels… But I found this. The Atari 400 was my FIRST computer.. when I was in like 2nd grade… Turned me into the tech dork I am today – with a lot of help from my Dad.. He gave me the computer with the one rule that he wouldn’t buy any games for me – the only games I was allowed to play I had to write my self!…

TOO FUNNY…

Anyway.. G’Night.! 😉

Blog MetaData

Geek Alert:

I just discovered Blizg when reading Shanni’s blog and its REALLY cool. For those not familiar with metadata the short definition is that it is data about data. Essentially a structured way of providing information about your site in the form of meta tags. By using these tags on your blog (or any site) you can provide information about your blog or site in a standard way that others can find..

Blizg takes this metadata from blogs and uses it as a REALLY COOL way to go blog hopping above and beyond using people’s blogrolls. You can find blogs by language, country, keywords, or any other thing that they have defined as meta tags.

Anyway.. Maybe i’m just a geek.. Just thought it was cool and had to share! 🙂

Geek / Blog Tool

Surfing around this morning bloggy pointed me at a tool called phntoolbar that looks REALLY useful. Among other things it will let you debug your layout by outlining the HTML elements on your site so you can see where the bounds of one element stop and another start. I’ve had a hell of a time getting some of my elements to function the way I’ve wanted them to so this will come in really handy… Looks like this is confined to Mozilla (and not even Camino) which is kind of a drag… But still – better than nothing.. May get me to check things out on browsers other than Safari..

Anyway… Just in case anyone cares..
