MTV and the Kiss….
Ok.. So Kevin and I caught a re-broadcast of the MTV Music awards this morning. The whole Madonna, Britney, Christina routine (and forgive me – I can’t remember the rapper’s name) was pretty damn cool but that kiss – not as big a deal as I expected.. cool and all sure but just a peck – peck with tongue granted – but a peck.. Now Madonna runner her hand all the way up Britney’s inner thigh – THAT I would have thought would have been a bigger deal… But still..
Rest of the show? COMPLETELY uninteresting.. I’m probably just turning into my parents but I thought the show was just commercial and irritating. I listen to my fair share of weird alternative music so I can deal with other music that isn’t my style. But the whole awards show seemed to a pretty narrow set of trendy artists and didn’t seem to do a very good job of showin the other alternative and less ‘marketed’ artists. Mind you I’m not expecting Jazz or Classical or Even Country artists – it is MTV after all. It just seemed to be more focused on the acts they’re pushing and throwing money at like Eminem and Byonce rather than trying to show artists that have really revolutionary music and talent…
Guess I’m just expecting too much… Just wish the music industry had more to do with talent and free expression and less to do with PR… Least you can still find the good stuff out there – you just have to look harder… More fun going to the divey places where the garage bands play and to the clubs like Yoshi’s to hear good jazz.. Stadiums really are kinda shitty places to take in music anyway…
:):)
Ever wonder…
… where Ikea got those weird names for their stuff? Well if you read German check this out:

Ok… So ‘nother tid bit about me.. I’m a University of Colorado Boulder Football fan… Can’t help but be when you spend 5 years in the CU marching band. CU Football is one of the few sports that I actually watch (aside from Men’s Gymnastics – but for a completely DIFFERENT reason! 😉 )..
So… At any Rate… CU beat CSU just now 43-35. Go BUFFS! 🙂
( Scores and Schedule are below – if you’re interested! 🙂 )

Dance Music Origins
On the way to work the other day I was listening to Dance Mix CD # 847 (Actually think it was called “Circuit ’99” or something like that – but who can keep track) and was wishing I could find the original version of a couple of the songs.. There are a LOT of really cool dance mixes That are actually re-mixes of old cool songs. So this afternoon I dove into my CD collection and started ripping old CDs to put together a Remix Origins CD… Kind a fun and stupid.. This is what I’ve found so far:
- If You Could Read My Mind
- Original: Gordon Lightfoot
- Remix: Stars On 54: Ultra Naté, Amber & Jocelyn Enriquez
- What a Fool Believes
- Original: The Doobie Brothers
- Remix: Peter Cox
- Blue Monday
- Original: New Order
- Remix: Orgy
- California Dreamin’
- Original: The Mama’s and the Poppas
- Remix: High Jinkx
- American Pie
- Original: Don McLean
- Remix: Madonna
- Don’t Cry for me Argentina
- Original: Rogers and Hammerstein
- Remix: Madonna
There are others I like too – like a remix I heard of ‘Swingtown’ by The Steve Miller Band but the DJs mix them for parties and won’t give them out cuz they don’t have rights to them… I heard a mix of a song from the Lion King a few years back at the white party that was FLIPPIN AMAZING but the DJ won’t distribute it cuz Disney would kick his butt (I asked)…
Anyway… Guess being a music junkey and a geek leads to strange exercises like this. Kevin thinks i’m nuts.. But i’m keeping my eyes out for more. If you have any recommendations let me know! 🙂
My Day today
is going to be spent here… Woo hoo… Everyone’s gotta take a day of work from time to time – right? :)…. And riding roller coasters is one of my favorite ways to do it! 😉
